Know your Discovery editions?

Having been afflicted with Land Roveritis at an early age (it was no surprise having been born and raised in the UK that I would succumb to this disease) I find my self looking to add more heartache (in the form of another Land Rover product) to a life already filled with unanswered questions. This brings me to my question: Who knows their Discovery Series I special editions?
I already have enough of Solihulls’ finest sitting at home and on the road but have come across a Discovery edition I am not entirely sure is a legitimate edition, hence my question to the knowledge base here.........1997 Disco ....Kalahari Edition?
Or has someone thrown a safari rack, a ladder, a bush bar and a “LOOK AT ME” paint job on this SD and has called it macaroni? It does have a set of black rims with a polished outer lip as seen on the later Series II editions, but I have not come across any info. on any Series I editions. Are there other things that would have been on these if such an early edition existed, any special bolt ons? I have only seen a few pictures of the truck and am not going to waste my time going to see it if it turns out to be rubbish. Any help would be appreciated.

The Kalahari Edition showed up for the DII and was only for model years 2002 (in the US at least). Ask me how I know:D

The 1997 you are referring to would most likely an XD. So the "SD" badge is has on it leads me to believe it's a phony. But, check the rear gate (or boot accross the pond?) for a "Special Vehicles" badge. There should also be a "Special Vehicles" plate riveted to the radiator. You can also check the VIN with a LR dealer and they can access it's true identity.

Post a picture or a link if you have them....

Does it look like this?

Rob,
Thanks for the quick reply. Nice looking truck by the way!
My mistake it is an XD...not SD. The only picture I have is as attached. Looks like it has sat for sometime and the back rim looks like a steel rim. Anyway once I get more photos and info. I will post them

This is not the first time I see this truck.... Is it an ad on Ebay or Craigslist?

The one in the add looks like a real-deal XD to me. Someone would have to go through a lot of trouble to get the actual "XD" badges from Land Rover. Needs some love, but if it's a good deal, jump on it!

The picture I posted above isn't mine, but was listed as a '97 XD, so that is what the vehicle in the add could look like with a little TLC...

Here's a picture of my '02 Kalahari...

I have seen several of those while doing a image search to make my own screen saver. Has to be a real edition.

No it's a legitimate ad not the Ebay Escrow scam those douchebags try to pull. I have spoken with the owner and can actually go and view it and probably will next time I head into the city. He claims it was one of 250 units made and sold in 96/97 (50 in the US, 50 in Canada, balh, blah?). Not sure I want to spend more money on a truck I do not really need but it's a sickness trying to rescue every Land Rover I come across.

Truck has 139,000 kms and has sat for a while. Interior has been altered as the original seats were tatty (he claims to have used a set of seats from a RRC)? Not really a selling point to me. It does have the correct rims as the steels in the photo on the back are from one of his Defenders. He is asking $6000 cad. and will not budge on price.

wow, I would walk from that one. That seems really high, unless it is mint...

I would tell him to enjoy his lawn ornament. He is crazy to ask that much. It is not worth it.
