New thermostat, warm faster

Installed a 180 degree stat Stant 45858 in anticipation of desert SW summer, flushed the cooling system twice befor refilling with 50/50 peak coolant, and now my gauge gets to warm (half way on the dial) in half or 1/3 the time it did before, maybe 5-7 min. The old stat I took out looked original, at 87,xxx miles. Anyone have this experience? Thinking of getting an ultragauge just to check it out..,

have you got all the air bled out of it for sure ?

bearskinrug 04-18-2014 10:28 PM

Pretty sure. I'll burp it some more tomorrow i guess. Heater seems to work faster too. Seems strange, wonder if the old stat was stuck open or opened too fast? How long should it take for a DI to get warm street driving at 50 degrees ambient temp?

Mine probably takes 5 min. Maybe a few longer but not much.

Sounds normal to me, I watch my temp gauge in the ug alot

I replaced mine and I actually get heat out of the heater , even when it gets below 40 degrees!! It never worked too good all winter but it was too cold out to replace it. Now the gauge goes up almost 1/2 way. it didn't do that when the outside temps got below 40 or so.

The cap r parts guy wouldn't sell me anything below a 190 stat. he said he wasn't gonna do it because the computer said it was supposed to be a 190 and that was that. I don't go there anymore....

Wow what a tool

Poor warm up is usually due to bad or stuck open stat, or really low coolant ;)

I just put in the same stat because of that exact problem. It too now warms up much faster (which is good). The old one was stuck open by a couple mm. If you aren't looking for it, you may have missed it.

Thanks gents. Truck seems to run better now that it gets warm faster. Just makes you nervous to see that gauge move faster than you're used to...

Yeah mines been stuck open I assume for a couple of years. 40°F or below eevn if I let it warm up standing still as soon as I get on the highway it cools back down to the cool mark on the gauge. Being as I'm in Texas and the winters are short haven't been too bothered by it yet. May try to see what lower temp stats they have on AB?
