oil lite

How long should the oil lite stay on in cold weather

Get the feeling my oil pumps going

Started d1 yesterday morning, 20* out sat a few days running the lighter rotella Dino, oil light would not go out it was on 30 seconds +++ concerned gonna kill bearings

ArmyRover Jan 1, 2015 09:39 PM

Tom that is to long, I would say less than 3 seconds in my disco in colder temps.

USNAVYORDNANCE Jan 1, 2015 11:52 PM

It's been 30* here in East County San Diego. Mine stays on for about 3 seconds after start up.

Yeah I figured that guess I am rebuilding lower end this year

Guess I may do the 4.6 mods after all

Teens to single digits in northern NH, oil light goes out immediately. Rotella T6 5w40

IIRC the oil pump is pretty bullet proof but the sender is weak, maybe start at the easiest starting point

mine goes out in under two seconds. does your scan gauge tell you oil pressure?

ihscouts Jan 2, 2015 01:46 PM

T6 my man. Been there, done that. Probably do need a shell replacement but until then you wanna keep as much as you can. You spin a bearing you might as well toss the crank, disposable...... When's the last time you checked the pick-up? Mine looked like a silicone rug last time my light stayed on longer than a few seconds.

Pulled and cleaned pickup and new gasket when I did the heads, oil sender is new old one was leakin

Did this last year in the very cold

Winter I run the lighter grade rotella t , summer is the 15w/40, currently running the k&n oil filter

When the engine was apart it was not full of burned up crud guess somethings wore out

Scanner does not tell oil pressure on these

ArmyRover Jan 2, 2015 05:33 PM

Maybe switch it up to 10w40 and see if that helps out as a band aid

TOM R Jan 2, 2015 05:50 PM

I will need to see what the light rotella I used is and go thinner I guess, I'm laid up for a month as far as labor goes so maybe have the wife drain and refill the oil.
