Oil pressure light sounds like a diesel
Driving into work and oil light comes on. I actually forgot about it while working and went to go crank it after sitting 12 hours and sounds like a diesel with oil light on still. Got 1 block and pulled over and shut down. Is that the oil pump gone bad?
97 D1 with 155,000 miles and new oil change. And yes oil level was full. Thanks |

Yes it still is

Not necessarily the oil pump, could just be the oil pick-up screen is loaded with RTV, old gasket material and carbonized oil.
|
Ahhhhhhhh.... Sure could I suppose. Gotta drop the oil pan and see I figure.

It's not a bad idea since it could save you from buying a new gear-rotor pump. Let us know what you find. I've had it happen with my truck a couple of times. If you did trash the oil pump it's recommended to grab a new front cover........ there's some bucks. It has to do with the rotor to front cover/cover plate distance, can't be too wide.
|
I recommend a new cover too. I did a front end rebuild and just replaced the gears and still had a oil pressure issue. I got one for very cheap that had 3000 miles on it and had no more pressure issues. Also run Rotella oil.

I do run Rotella and recently changed it. I just towed it somewhere I could leave it for a while. I just don't have the time to mess with it.
I did notice oil on bottom of engine and front axle today. I've put on new hoses and recent oil change. No oil upper half engine from what I can see.... I also noticed some coolant on top engine area under intake. Cannot see where the coolant coming from neither. The thermostat connection around was dry. I also see the coolant in back area on top of engine as well. For the oil leak, it seems it may be from front seal perhaps?????? Oil dips tick looks like just oil on it. No coolant. I had head gaskets and heads worked a while back due to overheating but been great ever since. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm |
Very possible from the front seal. I lost mine without it being the pump, easy to replace once the pulley's off.
