Parts replacement: Genuine or High Quality?

When replacing parts in a Land Rover (in my case a Discovery 96-98) what parts should remain "geniune" and what parts are generally okay to replace with non-genuine high quality parts? Some people say that spark plugs and wires, ignition coils and other engine componets should be genuine. Sure but what about wheel bearings, exhaust, brake lines, engines complete etc?

From what I get after reading a lot of posts on this forum is:
Spark plugs: cheap is okay; champs
Spark Plug Wires: Magnecore 8mm I think
Wheel bearings: Timken, SKF, and National

As with any make, I'm not aware of any part that really needs to be genuine.
Other companies make nearly all of the parts. For instance, the pistons are made by AE.
That said, there are some crap parts out there too.

The only parts I preffer genuine over aftermarket is the suspension bushings, other then that I dont have to much Land Rover parts left on my truck. But Like Antichrist said there is good and there is bad aftermarket stuff.

If its to good to be true...

Just stick with name brand stuff and you'll be fine.

I think I am more concerned with WHO I buy my parts from as opposed to if they are genuine. I am confident that if I purchase an after-market part from a reputable vender they will stand behind it if it does not work or if it fails prematurely. I have purchased after-market parts that look identical to what I was replacing and I would not be surprised if they were produced by the same people.
