Power Seat Problem

There is something wrong with my seat. It will move in every direction but backwards... so I can;t let my wife drive it, because then it will be stuck an inch away from the steering wheel, do you guys think it may be the switch or the motor? or perhaps something else?

Mine does the same thing ocasionally. I just take some electrical contact cleaner to the switch and it usually last a couple of months. I havent pulled the switch apart I just stick the "straw" into the slot and spray some working the switch back and forth.

yah the switches are touchy, and a nightmare to take apart and clean or fix (I actually suggest against it) however they are expensive to replace (switch > $100). All in all my opinion is that if it goes forward and not backward it is the switch because generally when a motor fails it will fail in both directions.

I had trouble with my seats also. I took the switch apart and cleaned all the contacts and it worked great after that. If you decide to open the switch be very careful. There are ball bearings sitting on top of tiny springs that like to shoot out if you open it up too fast. Overall it's not a bad process if you take your time and keep track of all the little parts.

Thank you!
Spraying electrical contact cleaner in the seat switch fixed my passanger seat which had several motors that would only go in one direction.
