power steering fluid type

what is a good store bought ps fluid for the d1?

OverRover 02-26-2015 10:42 AM

Castrol ATF Transmax Dex/Merc Multi Vehicle #06820 at Advance or any auto parts place. And if you must use an additive (leaks, noises) Lucas Transmission Fix #10009, not the PS stop leak.

so same as transmission, think I use Valvoline atf+4 in trans and have some here

MM3846 02-26-2015 11:31 AM

I use full syn ATF. Seems to be fine.

OverRover 02-26-2015 11:32 AM

Yes, 100% same fluid as in AT. Standard PS fluid will kill the pump. A lesson you only have to learn once as a young lad. :D

ATF+4 should be fine, I just don't run synthetic so I can't tell you for sure.

jafir 02-26-2015 11:43 AM

Isn't ATF+4 specific to Chrysler/Mitsubishi?

TOM R 02-26-2015 11:51 AM

idk, works fine in rover trans so I must have seen it listed somewhere

I have been using Redline D4 in the auto trans and in the power steering. It has been working well for the last 10K miles.

Do you have to flush out the whole system, or just suck out whatever that is in the reservoir?
