Default Remote oil cooler... Ideas?

I'm getting my radiator recored and at the same thing thinking about going with a remote oil cooler with more cooling capacity than the oil-coolant exchanger it's got now. I've heard that a proper cooler can reduce lower end temps by more than 40° and keep the engine much happier, since most engines run at way above optimum temps for the oil to achieve proper lubrication.

My problem is I can't figure out where to put it. I'm not sure if there's enough room between the ac condenser and the grill to fit one, and there's no way I'm going to mount one lower than the radiator or in the wheel arch, on errant rock on the trail and I'm done for...

Ideas?

Same here, I'm probably going to abandon the one in the rad, as trans temps can easily exceed 240deg.

Engine cooler, too.

If my wife would only ride in the jump seats, I'd put the important stuff next to me.

luck,greg

Exactly, I'm thinking if anything the stock exchanger contributes to high coolant temps rather than helps them.

I toyed around with mounting the cooler in the hood, HMMWV style, but I can't figure out how I'd mount that either... Plus I worry a low pressure zone would exist and air would just woosh passed the cooler rather than through it!

I think you would have room behind the grill.
It's not that thick. (that's what she said!)

Where would you suggest on the frame where it'll be safe from mud and rocks?

I'm looking at either a flex-a-lite HD dual circuit cooler (power steering and engine oil), their 20"x5" oil cooler, or just an generic hayden tranny oil cooler, since there are literally millions of them on ebay!

Thoughts?

It seems to me that the place to look at would be right behind the grill, I would also change out that stock plastic grill and do something like some billet bars or a formed piece of sheet with cutouts or louvered.

That would be way cooler than stock.

Put it on the roof, plenty of air flow no matter which way your going.

Well, I've got the oil cooler. It's a flex-a-lite 20"x5"x3/4".
Now the question is, do I modify the existing oil cooler lines to reach around to the new cooler or blank them off and use a sandwich adaptor on the oil filter?
