Seats are stuck
Greetings fellow guru's....
My Disco 1 SE7 has the leather electric seats... They both have an issue with the recline function. One of them, the motor only works in forward, and the other only works backward. If they get out of place, it takes a bit of fettling and a lot of time to crank them back into postion. I had the center console off recently and I tried moving the seat switch from one side to the other and it didn't seem to make a difference. My thoughts are the problem lies within the seat motors... Concur? |
Yes. Some are able to pull the drive cable out of seat motor and turn with battery drill slowly to move to comfortable position and leave it. I bought a ragged out seat from junkyard for the motors (under $30), guess you might get motors independently. They use what looks like an old school speedometer cable to link to a right angle drive. Similar motors also found in Mercedes seats of the era.
Of course a voltmeter will tell you if seat switches are working, but they are delicate to remove from console, small plastic clips are brittle. If you decide to open a switch and clean up the contacts, do so over a large bowl. Lots of tiny parts go in many directions. |
My seat stopped moving front/back. It turned out to be a slightly corroded switch. Taking them apart is easy but very delicate. As stated above lots of tiny ball bearings and very small springs. Do the job in a bowl or on a cookie sheet to help prevent things from rolling away. It isn't difficult, but it is tedious.
