Sun Roof Woes

Good afternoon folks.

I removed the headliner to troubleshoot my leaking sunroof problems. Once it was out, I was able to see that there is a hair line of air between the gasket and the sun roof itself. I'm assuming this is why my Disco is fogging up on cold nights.

Neither sun roof motor works, I searched here, and found out I could use an allen wrench to open and close the roof. That was a great tip. I've noticed two problems, though. First, the part that slides into the handle-looking thing at the front was jammed below. I used a flat-head screwdriver to make it go back in the slot properly, but the window still isn't quite sealed. Do I have to replace the gasket? I would, ideally, like to have a working sun roof, but if it comes to it, I'll seal it shut completely.

Thanks in advance, I really appreciate having this forum to turn to when things go sour.

Marine grade sealant on the outside of the sunroof and the leak should stop.

you mean where the plastic frame touches the metal roof? like a bead under the trim all around? i'm about to do mine and wonder if the seal between the glass and the frame is working.

there's a lot of stuff here on the leaking sunroof. I'm thinking I might need to replace all seals in order to get close to leak proof. the water ingress bulletin is frightening.

My headliner has been out and is staying out. My sunroofs seal fine. The only leakage i had was at the corners of the metal frame where they used buttjoints and applied sealant. The factory sealant leaked. A bead of clear 50 year silicone did the trick.

I guess if the seals are deformed or cracked from UV damage whatever, they may require replacement.
