Tranny not shifting
 

I'm a new owner of a 94 Disco I (Automatic) and it doesn't want to shift out of first gear. I got it after it had been sitting for a long time. Are there any suggestions as to things to look for or do before writing the tranny off? It starts and drives but at 30 mph it still hasn't shifted and the rpms are high. Thanks for help in advance.

Might want to check/change the filter and fluid.

does it work in reverse ? and I worked on a friends Disco that the cable had come loose and wasnt moving the lever on the transmission as it should...

It works in reverse. I'll try new fluid and filter. Thanks
