truck won't start !

hi guys I've just bought a 98 disco v8 and the battery went flat , replaced it and the clutch pedal went to the floor and it just turns over , I don't have the original key for the door so can't do the 3 turns thing... I've tested at the coil and it only has 3.9 volts or so ... any advice ? thanks ... oh and I have read through the website ,I pulled out the dash to find no spider unit and I said the "fix' to the green box , all that did was stop it for turning over and made the horn go off ....

thanks :(

there is no code in the door key you just need one to fit the lock, do you have a remote? I have not had this problem YET but I am sure it will rear it's ugly head soon after I fix the high idle ;)

hi thanks for the reply , yes I have a remote and it works fine , I'm thinking I might take off the door panel and try to activate the code that way , if that doesn't work I think I might try a new coil

ummm.. back to basics -

Got spark? The ECU grounds the coils to make it, but that signal is derived from the crank position sensor (CKP). Bad sensor = no spark.

Got fuel pressure? Test valve on passenger side fuel rail, like a tire valve. Pump runs for like 2 seconds when key turned to position 2. Expect 32-34PSI when running.

Red alarm light on dash should not be on or blinking.

When I swapped my batt today the red light on dash was solid turned key and nothing, shut the doors and hit the lock button on remote a few times till doors locked then hit unlock and light went out and it started

Thanks guys, the truck runs on gas at the mo and has gas pressure at the engine bay , I check the restance on the coil today and instead of 13 ohms it has 8ish on the main coil so I think this maybe the problem so I'm going to order a new coil and see how it goes

Isn't it a series of 4 coils (two cylinders each) - long thing at back of engine on a 98? Instead of distributor and single coil as in earlier models? Here's the Eagle eye view of my 97's.

Yes, my '96 has the coil pack at the back of the engine. (?)

Nope I just have the one coil next to the radiator on the passenger side ,it goes to a distributor , it should arrive in a few days , I live in Humty Doo , out from Darwin . I hope it fixes it !

If it doesn't ill check the crank position thing
Thanks guys
