Ultra Gauge

My Ultra Gauge showed up today. I have had one for the 04 D2 for six month and really loved it so my wife ordered me one for Christmas for the 96 D1.

Plug it in and all kinds of crazy numbers for the speed and gas mileage.

Have I missed something on setting this up for the D1?

1996 was the first year for OBD2 for land rover (and most others... some started it in 1995). It might not have all the features added to the standard later.

Did you calibrate it?
The DI does not give as much info as the DII.
My MPG reads in the thousands, I just move the decimal point in my head, my speed reading is correct though.

Never managed to get the mpg to work on a 98 d1. You need to use a correction factor around 3000% and the average keeps starting with a high value and run down to to 0 within a few minutes. Their tech support was very friendly but were not able to help.

i'm getting one. i'd like to be able to swap it easily between the D1 and D2. I'd also like to be able to get mpg on the D1. That yours is two years "more advanced" doesn't give me much hope.

But Spike's mpg works (with conversion) on a 97. When he first got it we thought that it uses the MAF readings to compute pounds of fuel used (based on pounds of air used), etc. and does the math. Since some of that will be based on vehicle speed reading - my scanner never shows exactly what speedometer says for speed at freeway levels.

But it should be the best temp gauge for the money, and it will alarm at your preset point to distract you from screaming kids ("my feet are too hot!"), screamin' SWMBO ("quit looking at her thong!"), high volume stereo with no carpet sound blanket in back (imagine listening to heavy metal inside a beer can)....

I think you will have some program changes to make swapping D1 to D2 and back.

ha ha ha...i'm gonna take care of the searing floor. No doubt you can cook up some dogs on that flat metal. danny thinks it's abnormal.

yes, Spikes' work and that's why I'm getting it.

i don't understand the installation yet so I'm going to look into that a bit.

Spike555 01-12-2012 10:26 PM

The installation is easy, it is just kinda tedious, follow their directions to the "T".
I took my laptop out to the truck, it was easier that way, you need to enter info onto their website to fully set it up and qualify for the rebate.
Then once up and running you can play with it to configure it the way you want.
One of the things you need to do is to tell it what protocol the car uses, I do not know if the DI and DII use different protocols or not so swapping between trucks may not work.

Mine seems to scan and automatically figure out what protocol to use, as well as what gauges are available.
