Well, I'm buying it
I just managed to get over to my mechanic and check out the 96 disco. Nice dark oil, previous owners just redid the cooling, all doors and windows work, some weirdo put in aftermarket audio. Having the guy check the tie rod ends and probably test the oil pressure just to be sure the gaskets are cool for now. Any other reccomendations for easy checks I can ask the mechanic to do?

Grab an OBDll reader and check for codes and an accurate engine temp.
Make sure none of the dash bulbs have been pulled to hide a CEL or ABS light. |

What type of scanner did you get? I believe 96 is the first year with OBD2, any half decent scanner should be able to provide real-time readings for things such as battery voltage, oxygen sensors, TPS, intake air, MAF, coolant temp (this is a big deal with these trucks), fuel trim, etc.

Ideal temps are debatable but generally between 180 to 210. 215 is ok short term

How about making just 1 thread and keeping that alive? You've started 3 in the last 3 days with basically the same subject. Let's build on this one! Quit the rest.

Brand new shocks and tires, fixed all the doors and windows, no major leaks and all new fluids, tie rod ends are tight. Gonna check the 4wd and make sure it's still moving right, same with the sunroofs. Still need to replace a headlight and wash everything real nice. First order of business when I actually get it is replacing coolant hose and thermostat. Eventually I'll get to the head gaskets but the pressure has no problem so that will be preventative when I can get around to it.
Any quick and easy things I should do? |
