winch bumper build!

5 Attachment(s)
So, two weeks ago I picked up some steel from a local supplier here in greenville. I was able to get 40 feet of 2" .120 wall dom, 40 feet of 1.75" .120 wall dom, and 6 feet of .25" steel plate for a very good price. I used the .25" plate for the frame mounts and winch tray. The 2" tube was used for the main tube while the rest of the bumper is 1.75". The tubeshark bender I had access to did not have a 2" dye, so I had to cut a miter joint for the bends on the main tube. All other bends on the 1.75" tube was done with the tube shark.
Here are some progress pics:

I still need to weld up the support bars for the push bar tomorrow, and then I hope to get started on the rear bumper. I will also take some more pictures

Looking good. What lift do you have and what tires are you running.

2" terrafirma and kumho kl71 tires

Looks good. Where's the winch go? And is that a DIY grill? Nice paint job too.

jbm6287 10-30-2011 11:19 PM

The winch will go on the 8"x32" tray in the middle, either top or bottom. And yes that is a DIY grill. The paint job is going to be completely redone soon, more on that later though. Tomorrow, I will finish the end caps on the main tube so it is air tight. I plan on using the front and rear bumpers as aux air tanks for the air compressor and main air tank I will be installing in the months to come.I also will be fabing up a few light tabs and other bits for the bumpers this week. I will keep this up to date as I add on to it

Interested to see the final product. I just ordered tube bumpers F&R from Rockstar. Are you going to have to trim your grill to fit the winch?
That's a really slick idea using the tube bumpers as air tanks!
What kind of mesh did you use for the grill?

jbm6287 11-01-2011 08:15 AM

i used a roll of mesh wire from ACE, and the grill will most likely need to be trimmed, but thats another redesign im im working on too. The rockstar fab bumpers were sorta the imsperation behind my design. My rear bumper will follow the same design as theirs, with a few differences

I'm likeing the big stinger, looks good. Too bad you didnt have the right dye to round the main tube around a little better.
