where is it located? how do i know if its bad? can it be cleaned /adjusted. thanks guys chaz

The D1 transmission is purely mechanical and has no XYZ switch.

chaz - since don't got one don't mean you a'int got no problem - so what prompted you to ax'd us?

well i bought a d1 knowing that it does absolutley noyhing in any gear. hoping possibly it might be something external. its in good shape so at$700 i took a chance. I drained the old fluid out which was TAN NEVER SEEN THAT BEFORE AND REFILLED IT still nada but it did pull itself forward a few feet in idle then quit. no noise of any kind

I would look for a used tranny if the engine is solid and the vehicle is worth fixing. If you put your location in your info it lets people know if you are close or what. The more info, the better help we can offer, such as model year, miles, and related info.

Tan - like water contamination or mud? Maybe add some tranny flush product, run engine a while, in gear (blocked) - so torque converter portion of the fluid will circulate, then drain and re-fill again - also could change filter. Reason? Typical red fluid, and when burnt from overheated use or the teenage shift pattern, there will be particles of the clutch disk packs in there which are very dark color. And it usually will smell like burned coffee left in a pot. If you pull the pan off to swap the filter, may be able to spray something on valve body to flush some of that away.

DO NOT let it idle in any gear with the wheels blocked or the parking brake on, this will overheat the transmission.
Let it idle in NEUTRAL, this will still circulate the trans fluid through the whole trans, putting it in park does NOT circulate the trans fluid.
In the neutral the trans pump pumps fluid but there is no load on the trans, in gear it is working, everytime it works it builds up heat.

Doesn't pump ATF in park huh. That seems odd if it does in neutral. Good to know though.
