40 weight oil is fine. I use Rotella 5w-40 in winter and 15w-40 in summer.

I use 15W50, others use 20W50 and others use 5W30, you can use anything you want as long as the first number is low enough for the coldest weather you will be getting before your next oil change.
Before I switched to full synthetic I used HD30 motor oil, and I still do in my Camry, in the summer.

Read your owners manual, it will give you the range of oils, depending on your climate.
Also use a good oil filter , not a Fram or equal piece of junk, Mobile 1 or K&N 3001 or a factory filter, ONLY

Called LR of San Diego yesterday, there using 10W-40 in Discos, interestingly enough he made a point of telling me 10W-40 Coventional oil - not Synthetic...anyway I suppose that's how they save a few bucks on operating expenses?

I didn't think anybody was using 10W-40 anymore. Remember a few years ago they determined it not to be a good combination?

There are lots of really good filters out there these days. Motocraft FL1A is an outstanding filter you can buy relatively cheap at Walmart and most discount places. Napa Gold (Wix) is another outstanding filter that costs about the same as a crappy Fram. Purolator has a nice filter, the premium one. AC Delco filters are pretty good too, and where I buy them, they areinexpensive. I've cut many different brands apart after the fact. You can't tell how good a filter is by the color of the paint. Take a Fram apart and you'll see the difference. Fram does make some higher quality pro-line filters, but they price them at twice what you can buy a comparable filter (like listed above) for.

I always heard thata 10w-40was notthe best. It requires a lot of modifiers to make the 40 wt. oila 10wrating (any multigradeconventionaloil requires them, but the viscocity difference is much smaller with a 10w-30 than a 10w-40, so fewer modifiers areneeded with the 10w-30).The oil tends to break down a lot quicker with more modifiers. A straight30 weight, single gradeoil would be ideal because it doesn't need modifiers, but not usually practical with temperature changes.A 15W-40 doesn'tneed as many modifiers and a 0W-40or 5W-40 is usually synthetic, which needs no modifiers.
