1994 Disco Fuel Filter question
 

Hello there,

Background:
This is my first post, probably well overdue.

Using the RAVE manual, I recently replaced the fuel pump in my Disco after it failed on Xmas day. All good, even did another 300 kms on a camping trip over New Years. I Didn't 'officially' depressurise the lines, but I think they kinda did themselves as the fuel pump failed and then it lines emptied.

(Embarrasingly) The Disco has not been serviced/fluids for about 2 years. So Today I decided to give it some loving.

Oil Change
Fuel Filter
Oil Filter
Air Filter
New Plugs
New Leads

All completed successfully except fuel filter.

Question:
I have located the fuel filter above the driver's side wheel well. My question is: is it absolutely essential to depressurise the fuel line (like the manual says...remove the fuel pump (again) and run dry) ???

Or is there another way to replace the fuel filter without having to go through this.?

I changed the fuel filter in my 97 a few months ago and I just loosened the fittings took it off and replaced it with the new one. No issues and she started up when finished. Go for it. Get some latex gloves to keep the gas off of your hands.

Yah, I've changed mine several times without depressurizing the fuel lines. Just be aware you're get a few oz of petrol spillage.

I replace my fuel filter once a year and I never depressurize the system.
I let it sit overnight, loosen the filter and let the fuel drain.
Make sure you use anti-seize on the threads of the new filter to make it easier to change next time.
