2000 Disco Check Engine Light
Okay, the 'Check Engine Soon' light just came on in my 2000 Disco. I checked the manual, which said that if the fuel filler cap is not correctly fitted it can turn the light on. Seeing as my wife was the last one to put gas in, I checked. Sure enough, the cap wasn't screwed on at all, just sitting there. I tightened it back down, but the light remains lit.
Does this light turn itself off, or is it like other manufacturer's features that require you to go to a 'certified mechanic' to have it turned off, likely with a high price tag? |
RE: 2000 Disco Check Engine Light
Just as an update, it's the 'Service Engine Soon' light, not 'Check Engine'.
EDIT: Oh, and I've only got about 41k miles, so it shouldn't be screaming at me about O2 sensors just yet . . . |
RE: 2000 Disco Check Engine Light
Well, I spoke to my dealer's service dept about this issue, and they mentioned that once the light is triggered it can 5 or 6 drive cycles for the computer to determine that the problem is corrected. I thought I'd pass that info along just in case anyone else ever comes across a similar issue.

RE: 2000 Disco Check Engine Light
Yeah Ben, It can take A few trips for the computer to reset. It also takes two trips for the computer to turn the light on in most cases. Drive it for A while and see what happens. The only time it is urgent is if the light is flashing. This indicates A major malfunction that could damage $$ components.
