2003 Disco ?'s

Let me try and throw a few questions all into one post:

1.) My Disco has a high-pitched squeal when driving, but goes away every time I hit the gas. When I take my foot off of the gas, the squeal comes back. Very loud. Can hear inside and outside of the truck. Any ideas? It is also there when the truck is in park, as well.

2.) Looking to get a spare tire cover. Any suggestions (pros and cons) between the soft and hard cover? Cheapest place to get one? Which one do YOU like the looks of better? I found soft covers at roversnorth for $69.50. I have a 4 bike Thule rack in the hitch, will that still work even if I get a hard cover?

3.) I would like to purchase a dog guard for the back (the one that can be installed/uninstalled without tools, about $80 at roversnorth). Is is still possible to use the cargo cover with the guard installed?

4.) Where is the 60K mile tuneup at?!!??!! I can't find it on the board any longer!!

Thanks for any input.

Get the soft cover. or leave it off completley. hard covers are the worst IMO

call roversnorth if its OEM then most likely if its aftermarket they can clarify

Thanks for the input. I sprayed the belts, but it hasn't helped. I am going to try and spray them again this week.

This is the spare tire cover that I am looking at. What do you think?

Rather, that is the hard cover that I am looking at. The soft cover is:

yeah the rhino one is cool. i like the elephant one... check ebay as well

The only problem with the soft tire cover is you need to take it off before you go through the automatic carwash, it will come off.

The hard covers look horrible in my opinion.

REPLACE YOUR SERPENTINE BELT TODAY!!!! OR YOU WILL OVERHEAT THE ENGINE AND BLOW IT UP!!

Your serp belt is bad and could fail at anytime, when it does you will loose everything, power steering, alternator, water pump...everything.
You will be dead in the water and calling for a tow truck.

One of the pully's is spring loaded to release tension.......which pully releases the tension in order to replace the serpentine belt?? I should probably do this sooner then later, eh? It doesn't always make the noise, but often enough to bother me and cause some worry. Any serpentine belt from an auto parts store should work, yeah?

Spike555 11-08-2009 08:38 PM

Yes any serp belt from any auto parts store, just make sure you get the right one, there are 2 different ones for a DII.

Find the belt tensioner, put a wrench on the nut in the middle of the pulley and loosen then belt, remove the belt, slowly release the tensioner.
Take pics of the old belt before you take it off so you know how the new one goes on.
Wrap the new belt around as many pulleys as you can, loosen the belt tensioner, finish installing the new belt.

Doesn't the serpentine belt make more of a tick than a squeal when replacement is needed? Perhaps it should be noted that my rover has a new short block installed 15K ago due to it falling in the bad VIN range.
