2003 land rover discovery 2 needs head gasket

hi. i am a proud owner of a 2003 LR Discovery which requires some repairs. it appears that the head gasket blew. Can anyone recommend a reliable and reasonable mechanic? I live in Santa Clara California. Any assistance is appreciated

If it's an '03 thats in the oil pump failure VIN range you might want to reconsider before dumping a lot of money into it...search '03 oil pump on here for more info

Can't help you on the mechanic, but make sure to shop around on prices, should be under $2000 or they are ripping you off.

My 03' is in the death range and it has 65K with no issues. Lets face it, an oil pump can fail on any disco. As I've seen on this forum I think this topic is way overblown. In my opinion this engine has many other issues then oil pump failures ie, head gasket failures which happens to all of us. I know Disco Mike had made his claim on the replacement of Dex Cool with the Green Stuff and this article brings up a point that may be hitting us Disco folks. The potential role of DEX-COOLŪ I need to get the Dex Cool out.
