All of the 1999-2001 SE7 Discos had air suspension. From 2003-2004 SE7 did not have air suspension, but HSE7 did have the air suspension. That was the only difference between the SE7 and HSE7.

The HSE had different rims than the SE and came with rear parking sensors as standard equipment. And if I am not mistaken the HSE had a different radio.

Back to the original question, some of the 2003 had oil pump problems but, I would say the 2004 had just about the same amount just without a technical service bulletin being issued.

2004 has the same oil pump failure as 2003?

Thanks to all for comments. I almost bought a 2003 HSE7 until I read about the oil pump failures here in the forum. So now I am ONLY looking at 2004s. Does anyone agree with the comment that 04s have the same failures as the 03s? Did Rover still uses the same oil pump in 04 as 03? Thank you …….

Its the same oil pump, I have been a bit surprised about the amount of '04 failures I have read about.

The 04's can also suffer from the oil pump failures, they just aren't as common as in the 03's.

Is there anything one can do to prevent the oil pump failures in 2003 and 2004s? Like changing the oil pump? Thanks

It's not really the pump that's messed up. It's a casting flaw in the engine that eventually blows up the pump. You can periodically replace the oil pump before it should blow. You'll have to keep doing that until you don't want the truck anymore, or as long as you drive it. Or you can replace the engine.

Oh man. I was so excited about getting a newer Discovery. I was just looking at this one on EBay. The picture shows a rip and maybe signs of a blow up in the hood liner. I am sure some of you Rover detectives could tell me if is this from the oil pump blow up? or something else. I hope the picture loads up
