From 22's to Stock 18's
 

hi guys,
well our Disco came with some 22's when we bought it.
We are not fans about the "big wheels" but we decided we could go back to stock if needed.
Well that needed time is asap now lol!
Today when my wife was ready to go to work one of the tires was flat!
So here is the dilemma:
We found an OEM set for $200.
if we get back to smaller tires should we be gaining or loosing mpgs?
will post pics and sizes when I get home.

If your current tires are larger than stock and you go back to stock size then you'll gain. What size are your current tires? What size do you want to go to?

The truck has some 22 inches wheels now and we are thinking on going back to the 18 inches (stock) size.

Yea, the rim size makes little to no difference. The outside tire diameter and width is the biggest deciding factor.

Well I remember they are 22 inches and low profile I believe they are 265/50/22
but I will confirm in few hours

also thinking if we will get better mpgs, we can stay with the 22s.
At this point I'm ready to get a set of new tires, not putting my wife's life on the line.
Need reliability and safety. And since I will spend the money anyways I rather get better performance 😉

Go back to the stock 18" or 16". That's what the car was designed for so it will do better on those on pretty much everything. Don't expect a huge gain on mpg though. When comes to wheels and tires, get the best your money can buy. It will make the car ride better, perform better, and be much safer.

With a tire measurement of 265-50-22, you are at 32.4 inches, give or take., Stock size averages about 29.1 inches. So you are way oversized.

You may gain MPG back based on weight alone, if you downsize, but as said before, don't look for a ton of gains. 22 inch wheels are extremely heavy, compared to 16's 18's or even 19's.
I run 19's in the summer with the correct sized tire (255-50-19) and my mileage difference isn't anything to write home about.

If you want to keep the 22's and be somewhat close, the tire size you need is 265-35-22. Keep in mind that a 35 profile tire on a 2 ton brick WILL ride extremely hard. It'll handle like its on rails (pardon the overused pun) but your back wont be happy.

And you will lose tires alot.....

so I guess 285/35/22 are little big then? LOL
