255/70/r16 practical or just nice
hi all. Something interesting on the forums, everybody speaks about fitting or not bigger tires with or with out trimming or lifting.
i have now 255/60 and want to go 255/70 but this means not only increase in diameter also a heavyer tire. Does this effect in time the stiring, articulation etc. If you do such a change, what else do you must change also? |
your going for a 28 inch tire to a 30 inch tire width is the same at 10 inches
|
width is the same but weight is not
|
I'm running 255/17r16s right now at stock height with no problems what so ever. My speedo is actually closer to being right than it was on stock size and there is not a noticable difference in power or gas mileage. I didn't trim anything and they work perfectly.
I am going to be lifting and throwing on some 265/75s soonish though. I'll throw up a couple pictures within the next few hours. |
bigger tire more weight it will increase your unsprung weight and cause additional wear and tear.
if you increasing your tire height from 28 -30 on stock spring you will greatly decrease your articulation |
this is my point. what should i change along with the new tires ?
|
well you have 100k on your spring and shocks, so unless you replaced them you will want too.
And you will probably want a 2-inch over kit to gain back the articulation that was lost with the large tires, might not matter on the street but off road you will have clearance problems. But i sure someone else will get into your choices of different kit you have |

http://imgur.com/a/Wy8To Here is what mine looks like right now. I didn't feel like re-upload in the pictures, but there is a picture of her sitting level and a picture at full flex. |
alex, that is looking nice. do you have a picture from the side to see how it looks ? did you go also offroading ? does the suspension go now full length or ?

However, suspension seems to act exactly the same as with stock size from what I can tell. There is practically no difference other than being 1/2" taller and looking a little beefier. |
