285/75r16s? I know someone here is running them. Can I see a picture?

Hey all! Finally getting exhaust back on my Disco monday and she'll be tagged and returned to daily driver duty. Whoo! Also going to need new tires before winter. Right now I'm torn between 275/70r18s and 285/75r16s. I'm most likely going with Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws. I had them on my Silverado and I drove on them since January. About 14k miles in that time in a bunch of weather conditions and I've loved them. I love the price too.

I have a set of 18" rims and 16" rims. I like the 16" rims better, and I like the idea of being able to air down more, but surprisingly the tires are cheaper for the 18s, even being a larger tire. Most likely because it's such a common size in the aftermarket.

Anyway, I'd really just like to see some pictures of Discos on 285/75r16s.

Side note; does anyone know the weight difference of the 18" rim (without tire) vs the 16" rim (without tire)? This is primarily a street driven truck and will continue to be so until I move and have a real job, so over a year. Gas mileage (hah!) and road mannerisms are important to me; just not all important. Part of me is almost considering going with the 18 just to have them for street tires whenever I am able to buy a good large set of M/Ts for the 16s. The other part of me wants to get them on the 16s then keep the 265/65r18s I have with about 1/4 tread left for road trip tires that I'll likely never use. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sorry for the terrible picture angles lol but these are 285/75's.

If you want my 2 cents, I'll either be replacing with AT3W's in the same size or switching to KM2 255/85's. I'm personally leaning towards the 255/85's

I can tell you I've driven silverados on both the AT3W and the KM2 and I thought the AT3W was a far superior tire. They were considerably quieter, smoother, and I felt like they had better road handling.

I didn't get to test them in any off road, but considering how well the AT3W has been doing (10" of mud in 2wd) I don't see how the KO2 could do better.

Thanks for the pictures!

I'd love to get the AT3W's but they don't offer 255/85 lol slim pickin's at that size

Yeah, totally understand that. I think I've settled on the 285/75s. I really wish I could afford gears right now. If I could id jump straight to some 315/75r16s in an MT tread. I just don't think the transmission would be terribly happy with that decision long term. Plus it would be a dog. Hell, its already a dog. It would be half a dog.

Your PS pump would crap out pretty quickly too. Mine already struggles with 285/75's. Heavy tires and would be even worse @ 315/75 lol

You should really consider 255/85/16. I just ordered a set should arrive next week. I ordered toyo open country m/t and they are lighter than THE 285/75/16 skinnier so wont rub as much and is actually a little taller. I have heard excellent things on this tire size but the only issue is you will be SOL without carrying spares.. Nobody will carry them in a store... must order.

I definitely considered them because I would love the extra height and the decreased rolling resistance, but they're more expensive and I didn't really see any brands I wouldve liked as much in the size. I'm on a tight budget and driving a lot; I'm going to break 20k miles this year I think and ill probably drove more next year, so tire wear is a big consideration. The Falkens are warrantied for 55k miles which is super noce, and I know I like the tires handling characteristics in snow, mud, rain, and on the road. Not to mention the cost. Only down side to them is the weight, which I can live with.
