3 amigos wont go away

So i finally finished replacing brake pads on all wheels and cleaned all sensors. anyone know what else could be setting off the lights?! Any helps appreciated!

Disco Mike 05-28-2013 07:58 AM

Sure it won't go away, you need to find a proper scanner like the 3 amigo scanner, read the codes, fix it then clear the codes.

there are over two dozen things that can set them off, pads being a small one. You really need to have the code read otherwise you are just throwing good money after bad.

great, thx. i'll check to see if i can rent one from the mom & popslandrover shop up the street. On another note. Has anyone ever experienced thison their front driveshaft? Looks as if a metal collar on the universal joint isdetached.....

drowssap 05-29-2013 06:44 AM

yah, it called stop driving it right now unless you want to buy a new tranny and transfer case. Your u-joint is junk and needed to be replaced ASAP

Disco Mike 05-29-2013 07:07 AM

You really need to become a lot more familiar with Disco's. You have asked about 2 of the most common failures of Disco's, it is time you start reading up, cause as an example, if that drive shaft had failed while at 45 plus MPH, it would also take out your tranny.
How many miles are on your truck and have you some the major service posted at the top of this section, better get started if you plan on wheeling this summer.

richief556 05-29-2013 07:27 AM

I read several posts about the driveshaft and to my understanding the Ujoints that are installed on my truck are 'greasable'.... 3 nipples throughout the front driveshaft and 1 on the rear driveshaft. believe there was also a post about VIN #s within a particular range not requiring a driveshaft rebuild? (which i checked)I have 95k on the truck. I've read several of the stories in reference to the tranny getting hit as well. I have been experiencing vibration over 40, which then goes away, then it comes back again from 70mph +.

I've completed several of the items on the major servicechecklist.

6 Qts. of engine oil, Shell Rotella T-6
6 Qts. Of Vavoline’s high mileage Dextron 3 ATF
7 Qts. of 80/90W synthetic gear oil, 85W/140 for HD use
2 Gallons of Peak or any green or yellow coolant, don’t use Dexcool
1 Bottle of Lucas Power Steering additive
1 Bottle of Lucas Transmission additive
1 Can of B&G’s 44K gas additive
1 Can of Spray Carb. Spray
1 Can Of Brake cleaner
8 Spark Plugs, I use Bosch Platinum Plus 4's
1 Set of Magnacor or STI 8mm plug wires

I don't know where or what you have been reading but you should pay more attention.
U-joints have nothing to do with VIN's and it does not matter if you have 10 zerk fitting if they are not greased they don't do any good.
You sir have a broken cap on your u-joint its that simple.
I see you have done a lot of stuff on your Disco which is good, but doing them in the correct ordered is even more important.
First two thing on any LR should be pressure test the cooling system and rebuild the drive shafts

richief556 05-29-2013 09:16 AM

ok, well i guess i wasnt paying attention, regardless, so i just ordered 4 Precision Ujoints (#344) and (1) centering ball kit. 8 new Nylock nuts (steel grade 5 for 3/8" bolts w/ 24TPI I believe). I plan on pulling both drive shafts tonight and dropping them off at a local rover shop. To my understanding, $100 is a reasonable charge for a rebuild? $100 per driveshaft?
