Default 4.6 - Oil Leakage

Hi Folks,

2 days ago I bought a 2003 Discovery, 4.6 HSE, with 130000mls.
Today, after a 30 miles trip on the highway, the car had a lot of smoke behind, coming from oil drops burned on the hot exhaust.
I can’t see exactly, where the oil is coming from, there is all over, beginning from the front axle to the transfer case.

What are the typical problems which could cause a oil leakage which I could check tomorrow.
I’m new to the Discovery, but I owe a Defender since 2002.

Does somebody know a good workshop to bring the Discovery for a repair?

Tanks a lot in advance, and sorry for my poor English, I’m from Germany.

Picture after arriving home:

That is a lot of oil
Are you sure it is all oil?
Valve covers are known to get lose and let oil out.

My guess would be the front cover leaking or the valve cover gaskets, probably both.

This guy in Florida is a well regarded member of the Rover community not sure where you are located though...

Thanks for the input until now, after some research I will now start to have a look to the disco. I hope the issue can be fixed, because I like the car very much, besides I only owe it since some days and drove it only for a couple of miles.

Here some pictures from it's best side:

We are in Orlando FL, a shop nearby would be helpful, but thanks for the contact in Fort Lauderdale. I guess he can give some helpful hints what I could do.

Check the screw in plugs in the front oil pump/timing cover where an oil pump would connect. 2003 doesn't have an oil cooler and the blanking plugs they used to delete it do get loose. I had one back out part way and was getting oil all the way onto the back bumper. Screw in plugs with a hex head for a socket...don't remember the size.

It's all over the place from blowing back while driving. I'd clean the area real good so you can do a proper diagnose of where it's coming from. As stated above it could be coming from valve covers, front cover, etc.,

Today I did some cleaning and I think the oil is coming somewhere from the upper region of the front engine cover.
I also found the screws of the oil pan a little loose, but not much, and tightened them.

Tomorrow I try to find a mechanic to have a look to the oil leakage.

What could be the average price, to put in a new seal to the front cover and the oil pan?

Any suggestions for a good mechanic for Land Rovers in Orlando FL?

Thanks in advance ....
