'92 disco - stalling problem while driving uphill

My '92 3.5L petrol disco stalls on long (over 5 minute) uphill grind. The problem disappears after a 5 second wait on the side of the road. The problem only shows up on steady climbs. All sorts of solutions have been tried over a two year period. What do my mechanics and I not know about this or any car that has this problem?

So make life easier for us and tell us what has been done so far, save waisting your time with thoughts from us that you have already tried.

RE: '92 disco - stalling problem while driving uphill

1. Fuel and air filters replaced often
2. Fuel line flushed
3. New fuel pump and associated filter
4. New air mass sensor
5. Injectors removed and cleaned several times
6. New clutch
7. Several complete tuneups
8. New spark plug wires and destributor cap
9. New condenser

Two things that come to mind would be a failing coil, fuel puimp relay.

Thanks, Mike.

I failed to mention that I replaced the coil 6 months ago, but the 'fuel pump relay' sounds interesting. How could this pump affect the up-hill driving?

Under load, the pump has to work harder, if the relay is old, it won't take the starin and shut the pump off till it cools down. By the way, fuel pump relay are a pretty common issue with Discos.

Mike,

What about the fuel pressure regulator (fpr)? A man at Rovers North said that the fpr may be the problem.

That could be a possibility also.

Thanks again, Mike.

I will have these two parts, the fuel pump relay and the fuel pressure regulator checked out.
