94 DI Head Unit Inputs..
 

I have a 94 DI with a cassette player..

There wouldnt happen to be any inputs on the back of the stereo I could use to plug my iPhone/iPod into would there??

I used the inputs from my CD player to make an input...

If you don't have the CD player you would have to spoof a data input into the head unit then use the cd player input

meaning I simply I plug into the back of the stereo where the CD input is, and then select the CD input when I want to hear the iPhone..

Right??

Are the connections RCA?? or do i have to add PINS to the wiring harness or something??

If you have a CD Player it gives the head unit 3 basic signals (and the others are not required)

1 - Pin 12 is the data and when CD is selected this pin becomes active
2 - Pin 2 Left Audio
3 - Pin 4 Right Audio

and pins 1 and 3 are the ground to be used as shielding


If you have a CD player you would take Pin 2 and Pin 4 then solder a wire to each one and solder the other ends of that wire to an audio jack (input for ipod)

Then take pins 1 and 3 and use them as shielding (the third prong of the audio jack)

The Best way to solder the wires to the head unit is to remove the connector from the head unit and cut each wire above the multiplug

If you don't have a CD player you would have to find a way to make your headunit think your CD player is on, I can look into this if you need me to.


If you also want I can make the cords for you so all you have to do is install them


So do you have a CD changer?

No I dont have a CD Changer actually....

Could you go more in depth about making the Head Unit "Think" the CD player is on??

On Pin 12 there is a data signal...


I'm not sure how the data is being transfered, but I will go and find out when I get the chance

It may be as simple as running a couple volts across it, it may require an actual circuit

I'm looking to hook up an ipod connection at the CD player end of the system. I have the wires to connect power and audio to the ipod, I just need to know what wires are 1,2,3 &4 at the CD player end of the system. I can't seem to find a pin diagram and was unsuccessful when I tried to get it from Pioneer. Can you help?

I have a Disco II 2001, Just installed a Kenwood KOS-A300 external media controler, got for less than US$80.dollars, the problem here is that I have yet to foll the Alpina head unit into thinking there is an external CD player conected.
Any ideas? if some knows how please tell me. I can post picture later so you can see the end resuts in case you want to go same route
