Default 98 disco. UNIV. O2 Sensors?

Its that time for replacement of the O2 sensors on my 98 Disco LE. I have 110k and keep up with general Mant. But I just had a loss in MPG. From 13mpg to-10mpg city avg and from what i can tell they have never been changed. There are 4 of these $140+ each sensors, one in front and behind each of the Cat. converters. Anyone know if the "Univeral Type, 4 Wire 20cm Long, w/out Connectors"will work just as well. I've come across them at: Autopartswarehouse.com, and the state they are for 1994-2004 disco. At 45 bucks each, I'm wondering if its worth the time to wire theminusing the old connector. And if they are..... wiring diagram anyone?

The general consensus in this forum is to not recommend them. I don't think anyone has used them so we aren't sure if they're any good. You best off paying for the good quality sensorss at $140. Atlantic British is a good source and I think they are on sale.

The problem with having to attach your old plug to another 02 is that the connections never are the same even if soldered and then the signal is not as accurate.

Thanks for the info.I was hoping for a better response but... It is what it is! There isn't any way to clean them with a Alt./elec. cleaner? just another shot in the dark!

The sensors are down where is is wet and dirty also. So the splice will corode and it will all be for nothing.

Go to your local auto parts store and see what they show will work for your Disco, then have them cross match that 02 senser to other vehicles. Usually you will find that another manufacture will use the same 02 senser on their vehicle with a different part number and a lower price.

Just another thought...... I just moved up from Florida ( The Disco's first purchaser from FL and then myself, thus the truck has never been in REAL cold weather.) I've notice that it takes a long time for the truck to warm up. Or the temp gauge just gets to the line while driving for 30min to 1hr of driving. Could the T- Stat be stuck in the open position, and thisthe problemsince I haven't had the check Eng. light come on?I figure if the O2 sensor was bad I'd get a light on the dash. Any thoughts?

At you mileage, you need 02 sensors, they aren't bad enough to throw a light but they will cut you back on performance and MPG.
I live in Denver, on 20 degree days, I have heat within 2 miles of my house. So if you are not warming up after 1/2 hour, yes, I think it is safe to say your t/stat isn't helping you, which would also cause your engine to run rich longer while trying to warm up.
