99 DII Tranny Fluid and Fill Plug

I went to check the tranny fluid level and upon removing the filler plug, fluid poured out like I was draining it. Seems odd since other post mention it should just drip. The car was level. I have put 40k on it since purchasing from dealer, and simply wanted to check level and add if needed. Seems it was overfilled, fair assumption? Should I just let it drain from the filler plug until reaches right level, or drain and re-fill the whole thing?

Have to check the fluid with the engine running, shift drive to reverse, put back into park, leave the engine running then check or fill.

I would like to see some feedback from other members on this too. I just serviced my tranny and I followed the instructions on other posts and the rave manual and all seems well.

From what I can tell...if the truck isn't idling, you will have fluid pour out of the fill plug because it is all settled in the pan and not circulating through the gears. You have to check/top-off the level when it is idling.

You will probably get responses from more experienced members shortly.

Spoke with Mike via phone.....THANKS! Put in about 5 qts tranny fluid. As you mentioned, I will drain and refill in a week or two hoping to get most of the old garbage out of there. I didn't think I would notice a difference simply by changing the fluid, but I do notice easier gear changes and better torque.
