Default 99 Disco II Enging Humming around 75mph

Hey guys.

My disco II is running pretty good these days, with one minor exception.

When going around 75 mph and over the engine starts humming/vibrating. Feels like a pulse. Its not the tires or suspension, definitely the engine.

I get the car is now 16 years old just seeing if there is anything that can be done to help ease the pain of this old beast.

First of all, you're insane to drive a D2 at 75MPH. :-p

Second, I doubt very much that it's the engine you're feeling. Check your u-joints, pinion and wheel bearings.

I too get a little bit of a vibe between 75MPH and 80MPH in mine. It started after I replaced the U-joints in my front shaft, I wager that the shaft's balance is off by a hair.

I used to get a good humm, slight vibration at 70 or so and actually bought a second driveshaft but that didnt fix it. Replaced rear coupler and made it much better but I still have a slight noise at 75 or so but it will go away under or below that. I chalk it up to the balance being off just a hair as well and just live with it but mine isnt bad at all

Check your motor mounts.

If you have, or "suspect" an "out of balance" drive shaft, get it fixed, it's cheap. Your going to wear on other running gear items with a bent shaft.
