ABS Sensor Front Discovery I
Hi I have my front abs sensor bad. I was looking around to get the sensor but is very expensive, somebody know where to get another brand for less money. Some guys are charging $450 for the sensor, I think is to much, thanks.

How do you know you have a bad sensor, how was it tested, do your brakes squeak and are you talking front or rear sensors. That is the only sensor if you are looking at replacing both the rears.

I took my Disco to a mechanic because my pedal mas kicking for no reason, he told me that my front abs sensor from my right wheel was not working right. We change the pads and road tested, it stop the kicking but the antiblock light is on all the time. He told we need to replace that abs sensor, now i'm driving with the antiblock disable. |
You need to see if he really has a scanner that can actually read the ABS codes, most don't and are just guessing.
By the way look at the prices on Rover Connection, they are pretty fair. |
How badly do you want ABS?
The ABS sensors for a DI are $450 each, you wont find to many used ones and they are all going to be around the $400 price range for a brand new sensor. The next thing to go bad will be your ABS modulator, $1500 for that. So...here is what you do, open the hood and on the passenger fender is a fuse box, open it, find the ABS fuse and remove the fuse. Close the fuse box back up and you are good to go, no more brake pedal kicking in for no reason when you are trying to stop. Your ABS light will be on all the time and you will NOT have ABS, just like now, but you wont be out $500 for parts and labor. |
Actually $280 each on the fronts from Rover Connection, but as Spike has mentioned, is this something you really want/need for the cost?

Removing the ABS idiot light is very easy too. Takes about 10 minutes and a couple screwdrivers. Maintaining the ABS is far too costly for what it's worth IMHO.

X3 on pulling the fuse - I replaced one sensor, and then another speed sensor started acting up, then I almost rolled out into traffic with my family in the truck, needless to say I no longer have the ABS fuse under the hood or a bulb in the instrument cluster!

Thanks guys, very good tips.

Cruise Control
Is there a way to keep cruise control if you disable the ABS system?
Thanks John |
