all of my frustration
Ok so I've replaced all the seals up from the head gaskets and used new head bolts. I was careful to torque everything, use rtv appropriately and ensure everything was connected properly.
The only thing left now was installing the Y pipe and muffler and sure enough when I looked at the car this morning I had a pool of coolant leaking from the bell housing. So frustrated. I'm hoping its something simple. |
A kindred spirit. We shall one day toast our good fortune and roast meat to honor the Rover gods.
But for now, back to the salt mines. See Valley Pan Gasket & End Seals I noticed that the rear coolant openings of the heads that mate with the intake go nowhere. But rear intake bolts are sometimes found loose. BTW, what torque did you use on the intake? |
I followed the rave for torque figures on the intake and followed the order but I don't recall what that figure is

I haven't bleed the system of air yet or run the motor, and i used those steps for the guidance . I won't know until I get down there and look but either the elbow on the front of the motor is leaking or the hg's
|
Is there an o-ring behind the elbow? I have a D1, so that part is way different.
|
I re used the old one seeing as my kit didn't come with a new one. That's why I'm suspicious of that, plus my motor is leaning back on my driveway so fluid would travel Don the valley gasket an onto the bell housing.
|
My gasket kit came with an O-ring. I also put RTV on the pipe flange. I had a leak that was coming from the heater core pipe dripping on the exhaust by the o2 sensor. Had to put 2 hose clamps to stop it. Hopefully yous is something as simple. I feel your pain.
In fact Im going to roast meat in honor of the rover gods tonight. as soon as I replaced my head gaskets and stopped everything from leaking, Ever the sunroof, Now I have a seal leaking diff fluid by the front DS CV Joint. It just never ends with these things. Walk away for awhile and have a beer it will be there waiting tomorrow. Exhaust all possible inspections with a superb light, mirrors, a video camera if possible in all crevices to back-follow the leak source before raising the intake.
Can be a heater hose as has happened before. Good luck. |
|
Can you shove a paper towel into the valley area to confirm leak from there?
