Angry Another D2 bites the dust! No Pics.

On Sunday morning while driving to visit the folks, a 17 year old in a 4-Runner, driving too fast for the wet conditions, lost control and slammed into me. Waiting to hear from his insurance adjuster, should hear today, but I think it is totalled! He did a 180 and hit me in the front, everything is completely smashed and gone, hood buckled, etc. He than spun around from the impact and hit the drivers side between the doors. Pillar pushed in, doors smashed, roof is buckled. I was doing 40, what he was doing, I don't know. The airbags worked great! A little banged up and sore, but no serious injuries to either of us, It is one strong truck.
Will let you know what happens when I hear, so am looking online for a replacement. It took me one year to find the one I had! It wil be missed.

Airbags alone can total a car depending on how many of them go off. They cost roughly $2000-$2500 each to professionally replace. Add that to the damage and I think your D2 will be far beyond the threshold of totalled. Sorry mate, but the important thing is that you are okay. You can't buy new legs right?

Yes, but they are never as good as the originals!

Glad you are safe.

Well, I can tell you first hand I know how you feel (car wash carnage, post is a couple of weeks old), sorry to hear about your loss. As everyone else has said, the most important thing is that everyone is OK and the built-in safety measures did their job. It took me quite a while to become less angry at the situation, as I did nothing wrong and as a result of someone else's stupidity, I'm at a loss... Your situation exactly.

You'll find another Rover. Again, I'm glad to hear everyone is OK, albeit a little banged-up.

Thanks all for your support. Heard today is is totaled. Still negotiating, but it is obvious I will not get the replacement cost, never mind the $2K I have put into it. It took me a year to find the right one with all the options, color, interior, etc.
It looked brand new, not a dent or scratch. Slight wear on driver side seat and sagging headliner were only problems. Rebuilt drive shafts, drilled slotted rotors, new pads, all new hoses, changed all to synthetics, flushed tranny w/new filter, new shocks. New air bags and front springs were next. Oh well. I will be in another one soon!

Can you take off some of your old parts? I'm not sure how totaling a vehicle works as far as who gets to pick the carcass clean.
