Antifreeze types

OK, i know dex-cool is very naughty, and I want to ditch it. I thought I remember reading where there is another long-life coolant almost as bad, but can't remember which.

I see Peak Global on here alot, so assume that must be ok, what about other extended life's like prestone, havoline, etc ??

try this one

BMW blue...$30.00 for a gallon..only $10.00 more than the orange crap that screws up your truck....Thats what i am using now...;)

The coolant that I recommend is Peak Global Lifetime. It comes in a gold container and is available at Walgreens. It is better than the one that comes in the blue container.

No matter what you use just change it every 2 years.
But dont use Dex-Cool no matter what.

Dang, I just realized yesterday that's what's in mine. How do I go about flushing my system out?...and how much is this going to cost me?

Spike555 05-21-2011 12:29 PM

Remove the lower radiator hose and drain the system.
Refill with water.
Idle engine with the heater on HOT for 15 min.
Shut it off and let it cool for 20 min.
Drain, repeat until nothing but clear water comes out.
Then refill with 2 gal of premixed engine coolant, bleed the system of air and you are done.
Total cost is 2-3 hours of time and $20-30 depending on the price of coolant.

Peak is great, also add a bottle of either Water Wetter or Purple Ice to your coolant for better heat distribution.

Awesome! I'll add that to the list of things to do. Thanks a lot guys

Thank you for reminding me, I almost forgot that

What is the safest way to dispose of the drained Dex-cool?
