Anyone replaced a torque converter?
If anyone has replaced the torque converter, I'd really appreciate any pointers on how and what should I be looking out for.
thanks! |
I haven't, but the instructions should be in the RAVE (D2 workshop manual). Do you have a copy?
|
I do have a copy, but you know there are always some special tricks etc.

If you're replacing the torque converter, you really should replace/rebuild the trans and flush out the tranny cooler lines at the same time. The debris from your old converter will have gone through the entire system.

Alex_M is right, just swap the entire transmission. They almost never go out, better use of your time and money to just swap it.

Yes, sorry the "rebuild" somehow got stuck in my head. Replace is definitely a viable option.

@miron If you doubts have it done by a shop, Automatic transmission and brakes if you are not sure get it done professionally.

I don't have issues with the mechanical part. It's mostly the financial side of thing.
Also on another note, why does a rebuild kit for the hp22 doe a bmw cost half as much ase the one for LR? They seem to be pretty much identical... |
If it’s a 4HP24EH then it’s the same trans. BMW also used the 4HP22, which I think is a D1 trans. Either way, the kits should be the same for their respective transmissions.
