Battery terminal fix
2 Attachment(s)
I've seen a few people mention this on here but couldn't find any pics so I thought i'd post some of my fix. I cut the old terminal with a dremel tool on 2 sides, pried it apart with a screw driver, pulled it off and put on a universal terminal I had laying around the garage. I messed up a few of the outter copper strands with the dremel because I had poor lighting, foggy goggles and rushed the job but I think it will be ok. Excuse the poor cellphone pics. EDIT..this is the negative side, it will be more difficult to do the positive since it has 2 separate cables.

I hope you're not planning on leaving it like that.
A lug crimped well: Attachment 46105 sealed Attachment 46106 and connected to a good terminal. Attachment 46107 Will give trouble free service. |
I don't see a problem with it, it's on there tight and will not corrode if I keep anti-corrosion spray on it. The old one could not be tighten and could be taken off by hand. I do like those crimped ends though, where did you get those and what did you use to crimp them?

They are ok in a pinch, but don't provide as good an electrical connection, don't protect the inner wires from the atmosphere and, importantly, don't provide any strain relief for the conductors.
I'm sure it's better than what was on there. ;) I make my own cables (and will for anyone who needs a set). It's just a hammer blow crimper. |
I'm going to need to do the same thing as I installed an Optima and the negative cable is about two inches short. Any chance I could get a set like Antichrists'?
|
Tom where did you get the cable lugs from? I am looking for that exact kind for my mil-spec terminals and cannot find them locally

I would think NAPA would have something as good. Or I can send you one or two. They're $3-$3.50 each, depending on what size cable. Not cheap, but not cheap in quality either. |
the kids that work at my local napa are a bunch of idiots... ill go down there and see if i can show them a picture of what i need. if not i might have to take you up on that offer and buy 3 off of you.
