bleeding radiator on 1998 Disco 1
 

Hello,

I searched and could not find info relating to the Diso 1.

I just finished replacing all of the radiator hoses on our 1998 Discovery 1. I cannot find anywhere to bleed the system. I called one of the venders and they said it was not required on this model.

Also it topped off with two gallons of DEX and 16oz of water wetter. Is this enough coolent? The parts guy looked it up at Orielys and said it held three gallons?

Any help woould be appreciated.

you need to get the air out of the system regardless of year. The DI came with the green Coolant, not Dexcool. By all reports, the green is less caustic to the gaskets. The orange and the green don't mix well. Are you sure that you had Dexcool in the system? Phil

I thought Dex cool was in it. Should I dump it and add green? Spent 35.00 on the dexcool but sure do not want any leaks.

What about quantity?

I left the radiator cap off until air bubbles were clear. The coolent started coming out. Idled until warm with heater on.

How do I no it is bled or not????

Dump the dex, fill it with 50/50 green, mix your own, it's cheaper.

My '97 has a plug on pass side top of rad, I fill there to 1" below top (let it settle)
(engine off & cool)

Leave cap off res tank, start it up, let the stat open, heater blower on (easy way to tell if heater has no air)

Watch it for a few, refill, watch, refill, top it off, replace plug, shut it off.

If necessary, fill resevoir tank to just above 1/2.

I'd use the resevoir tank, but it's only 3/8 I.D. hose - that'll take forever.

thanks fellas. i will drain the dex and switch to the green. unfortunatly i have bigger problems. i had some oil leaks that i began addressing. i changed the upper and lower oil cooler pipes, the oil pressure sending unit, all of the radiator hoses, and resealed the transfer case inpection cover. the upper oil cooler pipe was leaking as well as the oil pressure sending unit. drove it two hours and have alot of oil leakage still. it didnt use any on the dip stick but the transmission and transfer case were covered. i have a socket on order to tighten the valve covers but while under the truck noticed a hole in the bell housing??? i will post pictures. oddly i dont think any thing is leaking from the hole but it doesn look like it is supposed to be there. i am with the wife and inlaws from england in houston and will post some pics when i get back tommorrow. we left the rover and rented a car. i had hope to have the oil leaks resolved and take the rover but ran out of time. anyways you guys are always very helpfull and i really appreciate the advice. thanks jim
