Blown Head Gasket
WHY?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! She was doing so well.
I need to get my truck repaired. I am handy but have no time to do it myself. Does anyone know where I can get her repaired. I would love to deal with a honest mechanic that is good and affordable. How much does it cost to do this kind of repair? I was told to replace the engine that it would be cheaper. That doesn't make sense is it true? If you have suggestions, I am open to them. Give me a price for ideas. |
Head gasket jobs run anywhere from $1000 to $3500. If the shop you choose does not know rovers be sure to do your research and be sure they do correctly. You can DIY for $400.

I am not exactly sure how much it cost to replace the head gaskets but I am sure that they cost less than replacing the engine. As for having it repaired, check with The British Rover Company. I don't know if they are honest and reasonable but they specialize in Land Rovers and are located in Broward County.

If its any consolation, I would say @ 140,000 miles on your head gaskets is a great run for an original LR part. Some poor folks bite the dust at 60k |
Flat rate is about 11 hours labor plus parts so don't let someone charge you over $1600 plus new plug wires.

Be sure to ask if the price includes rebuilding the heads.

A replacement or used motor is definitely not cheaper than the headgasket repair. I was just pricing out used motors on Fri, they are averaging $3000-4000.00 right now here in CA. My ticking noise is getting worse, so I am hoping for the best but may need to plan for the worse.

Mike I read the post by Chongo about why head gaskets fail. I read it thoroughly but still don't understand what will prevent the new gasket to fail for the same reason. Was the fix the adhesive on the new gaskets or his technique of the final torque of the head bolts to 68-72 ft lbs instead of the additional 90 Deg turn? I surely want to do everything I can to fix this the first time. Thanks.
