Brake lights on when ignition on

Brake lights on when ignition on
I just purchased my first Rover - a '95 Disco and am getting it ready for state inspection. Ran into my first issue. When i have the key on - power to the ignition the brake lights are on . Blinkers in the bumper work but no running lights. Front lights work fine. The Disco had a trailer light kit attached - i am wondering if someone botched that and also had a new ignition put in. So I guess I could have had an issue from that. I just find it odd that there is power to the brake lights with the key on but they aren't staying on after the key is off. I am going to get a wiring schematic ASAP but if anyone has info so that I don't have to test and go through the wiring it would be great. Thanks,
Dave

RE: Brake lights on when ignition on
Dave,
On your brake pedal lever, there is a switch with a little plunger in it. Push the pedal in and pull on the little plunger. Should click a a little and seat back out. Your lights will only come on with the key on, and the plunger gets pushed in too far, so the switch thinks your pedal is down. If this doesn't cure it, you need a new brake light switch....
