Brake Pads and Rotors - Advice
 

Good day -

Just last year I bought my first LR, an '03 Discovery. Brakes started making some noise and took it to my local shop to get a diagnosis. Pads are worn and need replacing (f+r), also the back rotors are below the recommend .46 (fronts are getting close and it was suggested I resurface?).

This local shop has quoted me about $600 for the above mentioned job. This is using low end parts for certain.

Some research I've come across leads me to think that my money may be better spent on OEM parts and possibly doing the job myself. I am not mechanical at all and have never even changed my own oil. Should I take on this venture or just leave it in the hands of the local shop (will likely provide my own parts)?

Are there any good websites or manuals that can lead me through a rotor/pad change?

First of all, you can't resurface Rover rotors. How many miles on your truck?
If you are at all mechanical, I can walk you thru doing the job your self.

This is the second time I've had to replace the brakes and rotors. I'm the original owner. Mileage is 90,000. I don't recall the type I used before.

Any suggestions on the wiper blades?

Are you asking a question?

A lot of people replace their DII wiper arms with D1 arms so they can use much cheaper blades.

Just bought drilled and slotted zinck plated really nice rotors and metalic pads i think for all four it was 380 somthing front back pads and rotors, havent installed them yet but they look alot better than any other caliper ive seen it looks like the ones on the new M5 will install asap let me know if your interested its irotors is the company

If you use cheap brake pads the brake dust will mess up your ABS sensors.
Buy the parts yourself and have then shop do it. You can use cheap rotors but you must use good pads.
