Bright non-HID Headlights
Hey everyone,
Haven't posted in a while (been making babies.) Anyway, my passenger low-beam headlight bulb blew, so I decided to replace both. I picked up a two-pack of Philips Crystal Vision Ultra and I'll be damned if it isn't close to HID! Just thought I'd share with anyone thinking of getting brighter lamps without having to install an HID kit. The box says is 4,000°K. Here's a link to the page on Philips' site: http://bit.ly/ewl9G6 The box and the site mention a "blue/white" look. I can't really see any blue - maybe a hint in certain reflections? But if you're concerned about getting white, this seems to be the bulb. Huge difference over the standard OEM's. -Anthony P.S. The silliest thing in the world is having to remove the grill to replace a simple headlight bulb. Gotta love LR's! |
Good info! I want to upgrade mine too.

I just upgraded to the Silvana Ultra. Wow what a difference. And not HID.

As mentioned to you on the other forum, this morning, those lights are pure junk and not worth postage to have them shipped to you.

I have those Silvana Ultra H7 lights in my Rover. They are the brightest halogen bulbs I have used. I tested all of the Silvania bulbs including the Silverstar. The difference between those and the Ultra is the wide beam it projects on the road. They will probably burn out quicker because they run hotter than a normal light. My next mod to the Rover will be HID 35w low beams about 5000k from HIDextra.com. I also have use the PIAA bright white H7 bulbs they burned out in less than 3 months, but PIAA will replace your bulbs if you send them the old one for free. After burning through 3 PIAA bulbs I switched to Silvania Ultra and all has been good since 5 months ago.

My bad luck was with the Silverstars. Haven't tried the Ultra.

Sylvanias, Philips, Piaa, etc..it's rare any of those will last more than a year. I tried them all but same basic result, they all burnt out in a short amount of time. Retrofit HID are the way to go but better for certain type headlamps. The HID on my 2003 D2 looks good and doesn't blind but on the earlier D2, the light scattering is pretty bad.
