Busted ash trays

So I noticed that about every time I got a Rover the ashtrays were stuck. The little spring retainer clips usually break when somebody tries to just yank the ashtrays out vs pushing it in to let the spring pop it out.

so I am gonna try to just fix this one. I think I can just jb weld a little L shaped metal piece on top to retain the spring. Unless somebody has done this with a better idea.

Zip ties will fix em!

Drill a hole and use a normal sized zip tie. It will hold the spring into place & the coin/ash try's will work like new. Takes longer to remove the 6 screws vs drill the two holes and use two zip ties! I'll see if I have a spare unit that's been modified sitting around and snap a pic for ya.

That's a great idea. I must have been over thinking it. Thanks allot.

Here is a pic for ya! I've been doing this repair since the 94 D1 and I've never had an issue afterwards. If the post that holds the spring breaks as well you can once again use a zip tie.

Great fix. I'll be doing this the next time mine implodes.

Works better vs the factory setup. I don’t think I’ve ever had one mess up after the zip tie fix.

While I love seeing good fixes, do y'all even use your ash trays? https://carrs4x4.com/ has a switch panel that goes in it's place. I mounted my ultra-gauge there.

I use mine for pocket change. The other one has my Ultra Gauge stuck to it. My cup holder spring imploded on me and I couldn't figure out how it went back together?
