Busted torque converter or trans?? Need help
5 Attachment(s)
I started a thread months ago about the situation with my 04 DiscoII..
https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...-engage-60969/ I have now finally dropped the transmission to find the busted plate attached to the torque converter.. There is also damage to the back of the torque converter and the bellhousing as well.. This is a sign of wobbling going on inside there... Now is this just a bad torque converter, or do I have some bent shafts in the transmission?? Anyone seen a mess like this?? Thanks for any advice... |
It's often a common fault, Ashcroft sell uprated torque converters for D2's. Even the tuned humble TD5 can 'lunch' a standard torque converter plate.

Why are we drawn to the carnage post's? Wish I could tell you, the answer to your question. Me personally, I would try and locate a used one and just replace it...or you can drop 2G's for Ashcroft rebuilt that most likely will last forever.

So could it just be the plate? How could it fall apart like that??

PS. It'd be an ideal time to replace the rear crank seal and service the starter motor whilst the box is off. |
I think he hit the nail on the head! I was towing my 26ft boat all summer up and down the highway.... damn
|
call pall grant and get a used TC and flexplate
|
For towing get a Dodge Ram Diesel truck.
Just buy someone's old work truck and use it as a boat tow. No sense in wrecking the Discovery with towing. |
