Buy the genuine grey land rover 180 thermostat
I'm leaving this forum and have deleted all my work in this thread.

That's nice to know. I've been trying with the idea of buying the genuine t-stat. I currently have the motor rad 180* and am a little leary of it. I see temps go from 197 to 204 on the highway. Does my paranoia no good. Lol

Motorad is Junk I have had 2 DOA! 1st the seal inside was not even installed correctly. The 2nd would never open up.
Stick with the Genuine, A little more money now is worth it. Besides in theory you should not have to replace it again for many years. |
Yes, nice to know. Good timing on the post (for me) as I'm getting ready to do all my hoses and was trying to decide on what thermostat to go with. Where did you purchase the one you have? Think I only saw Rovers North & BP Utah carrying the grey PEL500110"G"...

X2, where did you buy it?

Here you go bud. The genuine version is grey in color. The Motorad is white.
THERMOSTAT ASSY DII & FREELANDER 180 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT, PEL500110, RNQ028 - Rovers North - Classic Land Rover Parts I also recommend doubling up on the hose clamps since you will have to work on disconnecting the hoses to change the thermostat. Another recommendation is to change the plastic bleeder screw to a brass one. |
Genuine LR 180 FTW. Search for my thread on the Motorad. I had very similar temps to the OP. But after a few months temps went up unexpectedly. I pulled out the stat to find the inner seal dislodged and jammed up inside. IMO it's garbage. Buy genuine.

Are you saying buy new to replace the old or actually put 2 in place of one? What the source for the brass bleeder? Thanks again |
There are a number of sources for the bleeder screw. It is for a BMW.

Ordered 3, 2 for me and 1 for my friend.
Tried to order the t stats from RN, the site said they were emailing me a new password, but I never received one. I guess I'll have to wake up super early and order 1st thing Monday morning. I'm paranoid about overheating. |
