Catalytic Converter replace?
I have a 98 disco and the catalytic cinverters are rattleing. does anyone know where there might be a place to get them for less than $500? Or if there is a work-around to replaceing them I would be open to that. My state has no emmissions testing.

RE: Catalytic Converter replace?
You can get aftermarket cats for around 100.00 a piece and any competent muffler shop can replace them. Do not take it to a muffler shop and ask them to replace the cats or they will charge you an arm and a leg and put on the generic cats. Best bet is to buy them first then take them to the muffler shop.

RE: Catalytic Converter replace?
When you buy some replacement cats go for the High performance Low restriction type. They are a couple $ more but worth it.
How many miles on your truck, just wondering why they failed? You should find that out before you replace them or the next set will go the same way. Mike |
Rattling Cat 04 Disco Hse. Its 2022. Runs great just has the PO420 cat code drivers side cat rattles i assume bad. Just want to really know after all these years if I have that code stay active is it hurting the vehicle since its an after cat code. Or just pop a nonfouler on there until the other cat dies and then replace them for legal purposes? 10% offroad and 90% daily driver for work.

The only damage that can come from a failing converter is excessive backpressure hurting the motor as the converter clogs up.

Good point

A clogged Cat can cause a very significant power loss. I had an 01 Dakota with clogged Cats. When I removed them I picked up 12 km/hr up a local mountain highway hill.
