checking transmission fluid..cold or hot?

rave doesn't say which..i've checked it in the past and i believe it was hot..level was fine..I just checked it cold and fluid rushed out.

cold

I just had mine checked at the service dept and they said it should be checked cold.

i would check it cold. if fluid rushes out then you are full. are you checking because you have a leak?

no leaks, but the last couple of times I started rover up while really cold it took a few seconds for rover to move..had to build up pressure in tranny

Don't you want to check it hot? Or I guess it really doesn't matter, hot or cold, but I think you need to run through the gears to get the fuid running through all the parts (torque converter) and check it while the engine is running. That's how I check mine.

I'm no expert, but my D1 trans dip stick has the fill level for "check at cold idle". I would check at cold and after running through the gears once or twice, because that's what I've been told to do!

ill get it hot if im going to change so it will drain easier. i'll like to hear what others say.

that is correct. you should cycle thru the gears up and down and wait a few seconds at each then shut it down and check again.

X2 I've always gone with hot, or at least warm, and running, so the fluid isn't all settled, and you can get a more accurate reading.
