click click click stop???
 

so i just completed a throttle body and induction treatment according to the stickys. Not sure if that is relevant but now when I hit the gas from a complete stop i am getting a few clicks that sounds like the drive shaft or hub or something. Its a pretty deep loud click not like a CV joint I know what that sounds like. Not sure exactly what it could be. It clicks maybe 6 times or so then stops, i don't hear it click any more. and i don't hear it click if im rolling at above like 10 mph and then hit the gas. turning or not turning doesnt matter still clicks from a stop. i'm having the 3 u joints and centering ball kit done on the front drive shaft on Monday just because they are the originals, not because i heard them squeaking or anything. I do get a loud click when selecting a gear, it sounds simliar to this. Any suggestions as to what this clicking can be? hoping not something expensive! lol... no error codes except my usual in my sig.

Stop driving then truck until the front drive shaft has been rebuilt, the induction cleaning has nothing to do with this.
Take all back roads and drive real slow on your way to the shop Mon.

luckily i have no where to drive this weekend, and the machine shop is just around the corner from my house. Thanx Spike, will get the truck back Tue and see how its running.

Two things, crawl under the truck and count how many grease fittings you have on the front drive shaft, if only one, you need to have it rebuilt. You can remove it and drive on the rear shaft for awhile if you want.
The other thought is a CV joint may be failing also, both should be checked ASAP and if you remove the drive shaft yourself, you'll save your self about $50 that the shop will charge you.

the clicks have turned to squeaks. the squeaks are dependent on how fast i am going. i am going to try and remove the front drive shaft now it goes to the machine shop with the truck tomorrow to have the u joints and centering ball kit done.

Send me your tele number and I'll walk you thru how to engage the t/case so you can drive on the rear axle only.

friend is flatbedding the truck down there tom morning so no need to engage the t/case to RWD. Thanks Mike

The normal shop charges $50 to R&R the drive shaft, plus the tow bill, I would think that would be enough of a reason to do it your self, but hey, that is your call.
Let us know how it turns out.

i took the drive shaft out, and saw on the u joint closest to the transfer case that there was a ring looked like copper colored sticking out didn't look like it was in good shape at all. anyways with the parts and labor it was $150. should had truck up and running by tomorrow evening. will let you know how its runnin.

Make sure they are installing a new centering ball also for it will fail again very quickly.
