Clock removal on Disco2
 

How does the clock come out of the dash on a 1999 Disco2? Yesterday I removed the coin tray, ash tray and cup holders and could touch the back of the clock but I can not figure out how to get it out without breaking something. The clock works but the bulb has burnt out and I want to change it.

use 2 thick business cards not credits cards as they are too thick. stick one under and one above the clock its held in place with tabs the clock and locking switch are one unit the one tab is nearer the lock switch the other is center on the clock there is only one tab on the bottom once you get the tabs you will see the clock move and it slide right out. then just disconnect the multi plugs for the lock and the clock and you can twist the bulb out of the clock to replace

I tackled this recently and felt the same way. I ended up removing the door lock button cover since it is connected to the clock piece. The whole thing is held in by clips that are part of the clock piece. I used a flathead screwdriver and a paint can opener to pop it out. For me, the right side came out simple enough, but the left side definitely took enough pressure to feel like I would break something. Luckly enough, it came out w/o breaking. Worst case, if the clip brakes then just use some glue to get it back in. If you have to go with the glue only use a little and remember where you put it in case you have to change the bulb again.

By the way, where did you get the bulb? I couldn't find it anywhere and had to fork over $7.95 to the dealer. I need the ones for the odometer now.

I work at a BMW shop and we have a larger selection of interior bulbs so I'm hoping one of those will work. If I can find one that works I'll post the generic bulb #.

I couldn't seem to find the right thickness of card to make the job snappy, so I used a couple of feeler gauges that performed flawlessly. I can't remember where I saw it (which forum, etc) but there is a great "how to" with some helpful pictures. If someone knows what I am talking about and can produce the link, it might help the OP loads! I searched (a little) but couldn't find it here.

+1 on hilltoppersx's method. I did mine the same way with 2 expired credit cards. It needs a bit of patience though. I will suggest you to do the top part first, then the bottom. Good luck.

i bought the bulb from the dealer $5 cuz its right around the corner from me.

Thanks for the tips, I got the clock out with two expired membership cards. They worked well because they were thinner than a CC and didn't have raised numbers.

FYI the bulb in the clock is the same one used in a 1993-1998 3 series BMW dash cluster. BMW PN 62 13 1 383 311 $3.06 list price, might be more from a dealer. You can also use a 1.5w bulb, this is what I did because we were out of the 1.2w, BMW PN 62 11 1 391 260, list price is the same as the 1.2w. I keep my dash lights turned down very low so using the brighter bulb is not an issue for me but if you keep them turned all the way up you may want to run the correct 1.2w bulb.

That bulb base was different than the one I removed. The one that was in my clock was exactly the same as the BMW bulbs we had here at the shop I work at.

is the bulb for the clock the same as the odometer?? I currently need both..
